The House Cup closes out the core storyline. After speaking with Professor Weasley over your field guide, passing through the Great Hall antechamber will close the game.
After crossing the antechamber, a cutscene ensues where your fellow students endure their O.W.L. exams for various classes. The view returns to your character arriving at the feast with the rest of your classmates rushing into the hall. The character enters at last but stands at the back of the hall. Professor Black begins proceedings to award the House Cup, but Professor Weasley interjects. After mentioning your defense of the school during the Loyalist incursion and exceeding expectations in your courses, she awards the player’s house 100 points, swinging the cup in their house’s favor. After your housemates join you in celebration at the rear of the hall, the credits roll.
The “House Cup” quest closes the game much like the movies and books portray Harry Potter’s stories, finishing the year with a nod to the player character being the hero of their own tale. It’s a small but notable ribbon to wrap the game’s narrative. The quest is quick and to the point; though the celebration is just a handful of house characters you’ve seen in the game rather than something more representative of a 7-year table of young witches and wizards.
The initiation of this quest closes the core loop. The credit section will roll and is not escapable (escapable on replay?) Play beyond this point is possible but also open and undirected. Enemies will spawn regardless of the game’s events, resources regenerate and can be collected, and the fully unlocked Room of Requirement can be modified.
